Edit a dynamic QR code's destination
How to change where a dynamic QR code points after it's been printed, without reprinting the code.
Edit a dynamic QR code's destination
The whole point of a dynamic QR code is that the printed code never changes, but where it sends people can be updated any time. Here's how.
Steps
- Sign in and open your Dashboard.
- Find the dynamic code you want to change in your list of codes.
- Open it and edit the destination field (the URL or content it forwards to).
- Save. The change is live immediately — the next person who scans the existing printed code lands on the new destination.
You do not reprint anything. The QR pattern is tied to a short redirect (e.g. qrhubly.com/r/abc123); you're only changing what that short link points to.
What you can change
- The destination URL of a dynamic URL code.
- For other dynamic types, the underlying content the redirect resolves to.
What you can't change
- You can't change a static code's destination — it's baked into the pattern. If you created a static code, you'll need a new dynamic one. (See Static vs dynamic.)
- You can't change the type of a code (e.g. URL → WiFi) after creating it; create a new code for a different type.
Tips
- Test after editing: scan the physical code once with your phone to confirm it lands where you expect.
- Plan your short codes: if you manage many codes, give each a clear name in the dashboard so you know which printed asset it belongs to.
- Analytics keep flowing: editing the destination doesn't reset your scan history — you keep the full record across destinations.
FAQ
Will old printed codes still work after I edit? Yes — that's the point. Every previously printed/published copy of that dynamic code immediately follows the new destination.
Is there a limit to how often I can change it? No. Change it as often as you like on a Pro plan.
My free dynamic code stopped redirecting — why? Free dynamic codes are a trial and pause after 7 days or 50 scans. Subscribe to Pro to keep them live with no caps. See Plans, trials & limits.
