Is it safe to scan QR codes at restaurants?
Scanning a QR code at a restaurant is generally safe — the code on your table almost certainly opens the menu it claims to. The real (and rare) risk is tampering: scammers occasionally place their own sticker over a legitimate code, redirecting to a phishing page or fake payment site.
Thirty seconds of habit protects you completely: glance at whether the code is a sticker stuck over another sticker; read the URL preview your camera shows before tapping (a menu shouldn't lead to a login or payment page); and never enter card details because a table code asked — order payment goes through the staff or the official system. If a code seems off, our free safety checker will show you where it actually leads before you open it.
