Why it matters

Why your flyer needs a QR code

A flyer without a QR code is a dead end. Someone picks it up, reads the headline, and then what — they have to remember a URL, type it in, and hope they find the right page? Every extra step bleeds potential customers. A QR code bridges print and digital instantly: one camera tap and they land exactly where you want them, while you see exactly how many people scanned, from where, and when.

Print marketing traditionally had no way to measure engagement. A QR code on your flyer gives you real scan data — total scans, locations, devices, and daily trends — turning an offline channel into a trackable campaign.

Studies consistently show people act in the moment or not at all. A QR code captures attention immediately, before the flyer ends up in a pocket or bag and gets forgotten.

A dynamic QR code lets you update the destination after printing — swap a launch offer for an ongoing campaign, fix a broken URL, or redirect to a seasonal page without a new print run.

QR codes on flyers work for any industry: retail promotions, event tickets, restaurant menus, real estate listings, job listings, app downloads, and nonprofit donation pages all benefit from the instant bridging.

How it works

How to add a QR code to your flyer in 3 steps

1

Decide what the QR code links to

Pick the highest-value destination: your website, a specific landing page, an event ticket link, a coupon, a video, or a signup form. The more targeted the page, the better the conversion. Paste the URL into the generator above.

2

Design the code to match your flyer

Use the Design tab to match your brand: set colours, add your logo as the centre image, and choose a frame with a CTA label such as 'Scan for details', 'Get offer', or 'Book now'. Download as SVG for crisp printing at any size.

3

Drop it into your flyer layout

Open your flyer design in Canva, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, or any tool that accepts images. Place the SVG or PNG in a visible spot — typically the bottom right or bottom left corner, with at least 5 mm of white space around it. Print and distribute.

Analytics

See which flyer distributions actually drive action

Dynamic QR analytics turn your print campaign into a measurable channel — showing exactly how many people scanned, from where, and when.

Distribution performance

Create a separate code per distribution location or batch. Compare scan counts to see which areas, venues, or handout points are driving real engagement.

Campaign timing

The daily scan trend reveals when your flyers have the most impact — typically in the first 48 hours after distribution, with a second spike as the campaign deadline approaches.

Mobile-first audience

Nearly all flyer QR scans happen on mobile. Your landing page should load fast and convert cleanly on a 6-inch screen — the analytics confirm this is where the action is.

Geographic reach

City and country breakdowns show where your flyers are landing. If one neighbourhood consistently outperforms others, that is where to concentrate the next print run.

Placement tips

Tips for getting the most out of your flyer QR code

Use a call-to-action frame

A bare QR code confuses people who are not sure what it does. Add a frame label like 'Scan for details' or 'Get 20% off'. A clear CTA lifts scan rates — people need to know why they should point their camera before they do it.

Print it at the right size

For A5 or DL flyers held in hand, 3 x 3 cm is the comfortable minimum. For A4 or A3 posters, use 5 to 6 cm. Anything smaller risks scan failures on damaged or low-quality print copies.

High-contrast colours only

Dark code on a white or very light background reads reliably. Light-on-dark inverted codes can work but must be tested before printing at scale. Avoid placing the code over photos, gradients, or patterned backgrounds.

White space (quiet zone) is mandatory

QR codes need a clear border of at least 4 modules (the small squares) on all sides. Cramming the code edge-to-edge with text or graphics causes scan failures. The quiet zone is part of the QR standard, not optional.

Test before you print the full run

Print a test sheet and scan with multiple phones (iPhone, Android, different camera apps) before committing to a large run. What looks fine on screen sometimes fails on paper, especially with complex designs or low-contrast colour choices.

One code per campaign element

If you distribute flyers across multiple locations or for different purposes, use a separate dynamic code per variant. You can then compare scan rates per location and see what is actually working.

Dynamic QR codes

Dynamic codes: update the destination without reprinting

Printing a batch of flyers locks in the QR code pattern — but with a dynamic code, it does not lock in the destination. If your ticket platform changes, the promo expires, or you want to redirect to a post-event page, update the link in your QRhubly dashboard. Every flyer in circulation automatically points to the new URL. You also get full scan analytics: total scans, daily trend, device breakdown, and location data — so you can measure your print campaign the same way you measure a digital ad.

Static

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What should a QR code on a flyer link to?

The highest-converting flyer QR codes link to a single, focused action: a ticket purchase page, a coupon, a signup form, an app download, or a specific product page. Avoid linking to a homepage — the more targeted the destination, the better the conversion rate.

What size should the QR code be on a flyer?

For an A5 flyer or DL leaflet held in hand, 3 x 3 cm is the practical minimum. For A4, use 4 to 5 cm. For A3 or larger posters, go to 6 to 8 cm. Download as SVG for lossless scaling at any print size.

What file format should I use when adding the QR code to my design?

SVG is the best option for print — it is a vector format, infinitely scalable, and accepted by Canva, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and most professional design tools. PNG works as a fallback. Avoid JPEG — compression artefacts can make the code unscannable.

Can I track how many people scanned my flyer's QR code?

Yes — with a dynamic QR code. QRhubly logs every scan with the time, date, country, city, device, OS, and browser. You can see the daily trend, peak scan times, and a full location breakdown. For multi-location campaigns, use a separate code per distribution point to compare performance.

Can I change the QR code's destination after the flyers are printed?

Yes — with a dynamic QR code. The printed pattern never changes, but the destination is a short link you control in your QRhubly dashboard. Update it anytime to fix a broken URL, swap one campaign for another, or redirect to a post-event page after the campaign ends.

Does the QR code still work if the flyer gets crumpled or slightly damaged?

QR codes have built-in error correction — up to 30% of the pattern can be obscured and the code still reads. Minor creasing, slight moisture, and normal wear are fine. Severe damage or very low print quality may cause scan failures. Using a simple design without a logo overlay gives maximum error correction headroom.

Is the QR code for my flyer free?

Yes — creating and downloading a static QR code is completely free with no account required. Static codes always point to the same URL with no scan tracking. Dynamic codes — updateable destination and full scan analytics — need a free QRhubly account and a Pro subscription at $7/month.
